Toasted Hemp Kernel Muesli

Many consider hulled hemp kernels to be a super food as they are a rich source of nutritional health benefits; its profile provides an interesting range of health promoting properties. They are rich in protein, fibre, healthy fatty acids that include omega 3, omega 6 and omega 9, antioxidant properties that may reduce symptoms resulting from conditions that affect the cardiovascular system, skin and joints. They provide all 9 essential amino acids the building blocks for all proteins that the body cannot produce other than through the diet.

Toasted Hemp Kernel Muesli Recipe


1⁄2 cup coconut
1⁄2 cup wheatgerm
1⁄2 cup linseeds
1⁄2 cup seasame seeds
1⁄2 cup lecithin
1⁄2 cup chopped nuts of your choice
1⁄2 cup bran flakes
1⁄2 cup sunflower seeds
4 cups wholegrain oats
1⁄2 cup sunflower oil
1⁄2 cup pumpkin seeds
1⁄2 cup honey
1 tspn vanilla essence
1 cup mixed dried fruit of your choice (chopped dates, apricots, cranberries)
1⁄2 cup hemp seed kernels


Mix all dry ingredients in a large roasting dish. In a saucepan heat oil, honey and vanilla essence over a low heat to mix, pour over dry ingredients and mix. Cook in a low oven 120°-150° for about 25 minutes turning every 5 minutes until cooked, lightly golden. Once cooked remove from oven and add dried mixed fruit. Leave to cool before adding hemp kernels to retain their omega 3, 6 and 9.
