We need to consider adjusting their diet and our own to take into account the amount of energy required to match the level of activity, failure to adjust the diets will very often result in weight gain. Some breeds are more prone over eat and gain weight than others; at this time of year a comprehensive check-up at the Vets is worth considering.
As the weather closes in the days shorten and temperatures drop we may be less enthusiastic about going for a walk, it is important for the physical and mental health of our dogs; at times like these it is important to rug up and harden up and make the effort; our pets may also benefit from a coat if they are at any risk during the colder wet season.
Joint pain is very often what becomes apparent with the onset of winter the favouring of a leg, hip, a limp or paw may indicate the need for some special attention; a supplement or medical attention may be called for.
Through this period the most basic considerations may deliver worthwhile results keeping our pets dry and warm, regular checks of paws and gums; supplements to support joint health, joint function, muscles and the immune system.
