Keep an Eye on Your Pup For Signs of Any Health Problems
10 September 2018, 17:43

Your dog sees you as part of their pack and you see them as a family member and when they get ill it can be upsetting to watch them suffer. Dogs are prone to illnesses just like we are and there are many common ones to look out for, but should not be ignored. The quicker you take action, the less they will suffer and there are many ways you can help prevent a recurrence of the same health problem.

Joint Pain Or Hindered Mobility

Just like us dogs may experience pain or stiffness in their joints due to age or genetics. If you notice your pup is starting to struggle to get up or down, has jerky slower movements or maybe has swelling in a joint, first of all get him checked by a vet, but he may be experiencing joint discomfort. He may just need a good joint supplement to support his joint mobility and flexibility, so if you know your dogs breed is susceptible to joint problems you can start supplementation at an early age.

Vomiting

Sometimes when a dog vomits it can be from something simple like sensitivity to a food or they swallowed something foreign while in the park. The sickness may pass after vomiting a few times, but if it doesn’t it could mean a more serious health complication. Always get your pup checked out if the sickness continues.

Diarrhea

Diarrhea can happen for a few reasons and most of the time it’s not a cause to worry. It could be from sensitivity to a new brand/type of food or maybe they’ve picked up a bug. If blood is in the diarrhea that’s when you should have cause for concern and get them checked out at the vet as soon as possible.

Worms

Worms are not good for your dog’s body but are common; therefore you need to have a regular worming practice in place. Aim to worm your dog every three months in adulthood or every two weeks when they are a pup. Signs your dog has worms are; vomiting, loss of appetite, weight loss, bloody diarrhea and a poor coat appearance.

Skin Allergies

One of the most common health disorders in your dog is a skin allergy. Some breeds are more susceptible than others, but symptoms may include; hair loss and scratching excessively, paw licking, chewing their coat or scooting. Hot weather may activate allergies more than at other times of year.

We are responsible as pet owners to keep a check on our pets health and nip any problems in the bud before they get worse. There are many natural healthcare products you can buy online in New Zealand easily to support your pups health.
