We have heard much about our immune system over recent months and how important it is to maintain a resilient immune system; this is for very good reason as our immune response is the front line of our bodies defence against pathogens, viruses and toxins. Our immune system will respond in a number of ways to show that a risk to our good health is present; inflammation is one of the common responses to injury, viruses, pathogens and toxins.
This is the bodies system of ring fencing and isolating areas that have been impacted by the intruder or injury; pathogens and viruses may enter our bodies via the airways into our respiratory system, digestive system or through our skin into the blood stream and fatty tissue within our bodies.
Another path for irritants, pathogens and viruses is via the ducts and tissues in and adjacent to our eyes.
After our immune system has ring fenced potential problems our immune system takes over the maintenance and restoration of the area that has been affected. It is important that our immune system doesn’t overreact to the risk as this overreaction may result in the immune system attacking our bodies, resulting in a health compromising outcome, i.e rashes, swelling, inflammation to name but a few.
