Our daily routine must factor in sufficient fluid intake to avoid dehydration. One of the symptoms is a swelling tongue, cramps and muscle pain. Mild to moderate  dehydration symptoms may also include constipation, lack of energy, reduced urine flow and dark urine, dizziness, headaches and dry skin. Healthy body function is dependent on regular fluid intake a rule of thumb guideline is 6-8 glasses of water per day. Included in this would be coffee, tea, fruit juice and liquid rich fruit and vegetables.

Men tend to need more fluids through the day than women, in the region of 25-35 per cent; this may explain the male preference for beer over water or a cup of tea.
