Pulse Rates

Our heart rate varies depending on the bodies demand for oxygen it may speed up as demand increases and slow down as demand decreases; an unusually high rate when resting or a low maximum heart rate may indicate a heart attack risk pending.

So it is therefore a misnomer to refer our hearts as tickers i.e. a time piece relies on a consistent rate, whereas our hearts function at their best when our pulse rate varies to meet the ever changing demands of the body.

For example when resting a women’s heart rate range may be between 60 and 100 beats per minute, the lower end of this range is desirable; our aerobic capacity is a function of our hearts capacity to circulate the oxygen enriched blood our body requires to support body function of brain and muscle.

Monitoring your own blood pressure and pulse rate and becoming familiar with your personal results need not involve a costly visit to see a medical professional, compact, affordable blood pressure monitors are available.

They maintain a record of results within their memory and display readings on an electronic digital display; this record can be produced at your next medical check-up and provides useful information for your medical professional to assess your general health and well-being.

After all we are a nation of do it yourselves and monitoring your own blood pressure and pulse rate gives us a real time indication of our general health.
